Maine

When I travel, I seek out gardens and habitats that inspire me as a lifelong gardener. My husband and I recently traveled to the great state of Maine, starting at Bar Harbor with its vastly scenic and jaw-dropping Acadia National Park, and then made our way south along the coast to Camden, Rockland, Cushing, Bath, Brunswick, and Boothbay Harbor.

My advice? Get yourself to Maine asap and experience its natural seascapes and landscapes that are host to many delightful gardens, such as the Wild Gardens of Acadia — a must-see within Acadia National Park; Thuya Gardens and Asticou Gardens — also on Mount Desert Island near Acadia which are part of a private garden preserve; and, my favorite garden experience on the trip was the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay. Packed into 300 acres, it is a horticultural treasure-trove of native plants, trees, shrubs, sculptures, water features, children-friendly exhibits, experimental veg gardens in partnership with Burpee, and outrageous GIANT cedarwood trolls that are labeled Guardians of the Seeds!

I would love to know your special parts of Maine!
